*Urgent Sound Problem*

I'm not the most technical person around but my brother uses your site a bit and it seems to be the only place to get help tonight!
Well my problem is simply my sound won't work, This is very important to me as i use it to dj so you can understand my annoyance at it.
When i try to open a song using winamp the erroe message i get is...

"Another program is using your soundcard. Please change output device (in waveOut plug-in configuration), switch to DirectSound output (in winamp preferences / plug-ins / output) or get a soundcard which can play multiple streams.

Error code: 4
Windows error message:
"The specified drive is already in use. Wait until it is free, and the try again.""

I am running windows xp, I'm not sure what other info you need, but just ask and ill be glad to tell you as i really need this fixed by tonight!!!

Thought i might add that my pc is not working properly now at all, I have to boot in safe mode because when i turn my computer on it goes as far as the windows xp loading screen and stays there as if its loading forever. So i just press f8 and start from safe mode with networking.. If anyone can help with this i would appreciate it alot aswell! But my main problem tonight is the sound thanks.

 

I would probably try getting a new driver, or it might be something wrong in the bios.

 

Some details about your PC would be helpful . . . but in the meantime (since this is XP) have you tried going back to a restore point dated before these problems began?

 

Remove the driver in safe mode, and try rebooting in normal mode and reloading the driver. Also, try system restore as suggested above by Natakel.
