USA to Sue Sony

So from out of nowhere some lawyer has decided to attempt to sue Sony , not just alone but EVERYONE who owns a PS3 is asked to join in.
Why? Sony's update apparently removed the option to install Linux OS on the system.

Now, while I can see this may annoy a hand full of people, I would say a very high percentage of PS3 owners never even knew they COULD install Linux and I'm quite sure many don't even know what Linux is.

The argument for this is the system was Sold at a higher price because of this feature.
Now correct me if I'm wrong but at the time of launch, the PS3 had technology inside it that was not even available to the public and even if it was would cost you a small fortune. Sony did announce that the price of the PS3 was less than it cost to build and Sony took a huge financial hit on the system hoping to make it up over the course of time as the technology got cheaper.
Hell, just a Blu-Ray player was more expensive than a PS3.

So realistically speaking I don't see how this lawsuit could ever possibly win, I'm also pretty sure I've never read anywhere in my PS3 paperwork that it is my right to keep this option, I have read that Sony can change stuff without notice though.

Even if the lawsuit wins, what good will it do? Sue Sony for a gagillian dollars and for them to raise their prices to compensate, yeah good idea, we all want to pay more for stuff don't we.

Unless I've missed something, I think this is just another example of bullsheet artists trying to make money off a big company.

It's this kind of crap that is part of the reason world economics is in the state it's in.

Too many people trying to get rich off lawsuits. It's actually a disgusting part of society.

 

The sharks spot an opportunity and go for it. Should Sony win or the people win, either way the lawyers will make a killing.

 

Lawyers are probably already making a killing even if they lose/win. I am sure its not the ones where"they get paid if you get paid" . So why not take a case that could take a while and several meetings with many people which each hour costing something? Another thing while in court they should say well let me ask you this "group of people that bought ps3" for the price you all got a ps3 for would you rather have paid "blank amount" more? And they can say well we may get sued for something silly but hell they should raise the prices of product now and piss them off.

 

This is why tort reform is so vital . . . the cost of everything goes up because of spurious lawsuits like this one - ESPECIALLY health care. God forbid that ever happen, with the number of law makers that are, of course, also lawyers rolleyes
