My notebook keeps freezing up when the computer usage gets to 100%. When it freezes, the mouse will not move and the only way to shut down is to press and hold the power button. I have completed all of the steps for "read & run me first" (malware) section. I don't believe this is due to spyware, malware, trojans or viruses. I run cleaners and searches all of the time for this and the computer is not sluggish.
I have a "problem" wireless network card that might be causing this. I have been thru new, repaired and updated drivers for the card. Ive talk to tech support for D-link and Hp with no avail they just keep blaming each other. When the card is inserted My computer usage idles around 35% with nothing running. If i'm running IE then use a program that requires alot of computer usage that's when everything freezes.
I'm guessing the cause is my wireless card or low RAM. My RAM appears to be 191mb. I'm assuming the other 61mb is being occupied by a graphic card? (guessing)
I'm running xp pro. I have attached a process xp viewer report for when the wireless card is inserted. The Deferred Procedure Calls and Hardware Interrupts are caused by the card.
Now to the questions. Is there a way to stop my computer from reaching 100% usage and freezing up? Would getting more RAM with 512mb help? Can you somehow correct the interrupts and dpc's that i'm getting from my card w/out buying a new one? Is there some software that will free up my computer usage? Is there anything I can do? Please help!

you might try uninstalling its driver and moving the wireless card to a different port if that is possible

Also, unistall or kill ares(.exe), that's p2p app yes? it might be hogging the interupts and freezing your computer

while getting 512MBs will help, your low RAM size is not the cause of your problem

    Thanks P.
Unfortunately there's only one port for the wireless card. The computer freezes with or without Ares running. I don't run that program often. The strangest thing, my AC adapter died 6 months ago so I bought an aftermarket one. The end that plugs into my computer is bent up a bit. Sometimes I won't have any programs running at all and just pull out my card or move my compter and accidentally pull on the power chord and it will freeze. Is it possible that the power chord would cause it to freeze? I redid my OS about the same time i got the new AC adapter and about the same time the computer started freezing. not helping me pin point the problem.
    Any thoughts?

could this be a overheating protection feature? maybe after computer gets too hot it shut down on it's own? after it freezes up, eventually it will shut itself off.

do the freezes occur when you are on battery power?

I'm not sure, I almost never run off the battery. however, my replacement AC adapt. is bent at the input. if it wiggles around the computer will switch to battery, usually just a quick to battery then back to power kind of thing. if it doesn't switch back on it's own all i do is push it AC adapt in all the way and it goes back to plug-in mode.
yesterday I just pulled my wireless card out without using the "it's now safe to remove hardware" feature and it froze up as soon as the card came out.

yes, it will freeze up whithout the power chord plugged in. it purchased a new wireless card and it still froze up.
    i'm stumped.
I'm not sure if it's related but before redoing my OS it would dump physical memory and go to a blue screen then shut down and restart. that was with xp home. now with xp pro it will just freeze and then shutdown and restart. since the OS swap I haven't had the blue screen dump memory happen.
    help? please!
