Both my usb and cd/dvr drivers are recognized on my computer but neither will work....access denied. I had it fixed by a techy but it crashed a few weeks later. I have an Acer Power series FH. My husband thinks that there is a password that has locked the devices???

    Hi

What Windows version is this as well as its service pack level? can find this by clicking Start > Run and typeing winver and hitting enter in WinXP or in Vista and Windows 7 click Start and type winver in the Start Search box and hitting enter.

Also open up Device Manager and do you have any yellow ! marks if so by what devices?

Could try this but its generally for CD/DVD drives HERE and delete the upper and lower filters.

Another cause and its a general one for USB failing is malware on your PC, now I do not need any logs attaching but just run this guide HERE and does it find anything listed as malware or once running it did your USB start working ok?

sorry...I found the device manger and NO there are NOT any yellow marks. The computer acknowledges the drivers but will not allow access to them.

    Hi

Have you done the deletion of the upper and lower filters? this fix is a very comon cause of CD/DVD issues in either not showing up in My Computer or not allowing access. If you are not comfortable in editing the registry yourself there is a seft help automatic FixIt HERE

Also when you try and access a CD/DVD what is the full error message?

sorry I haven't tried that yet. I want my husband to do it because he understands what you are saying. We will do that on Saturday. when I put in a Cd or dvd it clicks and then makes a humming noise like it is reading it. That lasts for maybe 30 seconds and then shuts off...no message...blank. The usb message is..is not accessible.access denied.

    Hi

I would also make sure that the CD/DVD drive is connected securely, at times the cables can become loose (vibrations from the PC), just unplug an dreplug them in to make sure.

USB does sound a little like malware so would run the guide to check,
