Hi! I have a Win98SE computer at my mother's house with a broken CD-ROM drive and a possibly-working USB CD-RW drive and want to use the USB CD drive. Now, I have the driver I need, but it doesn't work: the drive doesn't appear in My Computer. Maybe I have the wrong driver. Can anybody point out to me another driver or information I need to get it to work?

I looked at the site and downloaded the file then realized that it doesn't support USB CD drives, just flash drives, and my system has the proper drivers for that. :(

Sorry my friend, I forgot about that. It may be difficult to find a driver for that specific USB CD ROM. Look to the manufacture and see if they offer a 98 driver. If the original is not reading, you can try cleaning the laser lens with a q-tip. It is easy to open up, just a few screws. If that fails just replace the original CD ROM. ebay, & goodwill stores would be good places to find an older one that you will need.

Uhh...I don't think it gives a manufacturer on the drive. I have to check. I might be going to my mother's house this weekend. If I do, I can check. I thank you for the tip. :)

I downloaded a driver from DriverGuide.com. Let me see if it works.

Not sure if you got it to work or not by now but there is a maybe chance of getting the usb/cd working. I personally have never tried it, but take a look at this link and give it a read. https://www.bootdisk.com/usb.htm
    Good luck.

I didn't get it working yet. :( I thank you for the link, though. :)

I tried the link, and it has a download section, but I have to pay $4 for a lot of files I don't need. :( I remembered another site with DOS-based drivers and tried it. I successfully downloaded the package. Just one issue: I need it for Win98SE, not DOS. Where can I get the Win8SE driver?

You can look for the USB manufacturer's website and you can find in their support section where you can download the driver for that USB cdrw model.
