How is it possible for my K drive to be there one moment and not the next?

My Photosmart camera was connecting via K drive (USB) but thoat wouldn't work either.

How much of such damage could be caused by a hacker?

we are talking about the windows operating system, right??
all kidding aside... try a different usb cable, try a different usb port, map the camera to a different drive letter other than K, and make sure the batteries in the camera are good. and/or... if the camera is using a usb hub, make sure that the usb hub is a powered hub. sometimes, the usb cable, itself, can not supply enough power to the camera for it to operate as you would expect... so the connection can be lost due to lack of power.

    take care,

Thanks for trying to help. Yes, it's a Windows program and the camera batteries ae new.

I've tried the camera on every USB outlet on my PC, tried the memory card too, and a different USB cable. I don't know how to map it to a different USB drive.

One of the Geeks on the Photosmart thread suggested a program I could download to show me all the USB connections on my PC. The camera was disconnected somehow. (Not my doing.) I uninstalled it and when I checked again the camera was connected.

K is still coming and going but I have no idea why. But then, other programs have been disappearing, too, so that I feel someone else is controlling my PC. It does things when my hands are nowhere near the keyboard. It's very slow and takes forever to shut down.

All USB connected devices, including cameras, are assigned a drive letter by Windows only while they are connected. Disconnect and the drive letter will disappear from (My) Computer. But are you saying that the letter assigned to your camera, K, suddenly disappears even though the camera is still physically connected and hasn't switched itself off? If that's the case whatever USB port you use then there is a hardware problem, either with the camera itself, or with the cable. It is not malware or a hacker at work.

Does this happen only with your camera, while other USB connected devices continue normally?

Many thanks for reassuring me. I can't check if K is there when the camera is connected because my PC was fried this morning. I'm using a library PC right now.
