Need some help, win. 98se machine, problem item > D-link, 3 port USB hub and Card reader ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817111132 ), not recoginized in "My Computer", does show in Device Mgr. under USB Controllers, as a Mass Storage device but with a Yellow Exclamination mark with this info > "NTKERN.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver (code2), click "update driver to fix" - have tried that to no avail -

Have spent most of the afternoon researching this problem, there is a copy of the NTKERN.VXD in the c:\windows\system and c:\windows\system\vmm32 directories

I did install the Win. 98SE SP 2.1a, downloaded from MG's

I am also being told when trying to update the driver that the UFD.SYS file cannot be found in c:\windows\inf\ufd.inf directory

Contacted D-link, they weren't sure this device would even work on a win. 98se machine at all, even with an updated driver, but on there web site for this product it states as being compatable with 98se -

There are 2 USB (1.1) ports in the back of the tower with a USB printer connected to one and working fine, I tried this device in that port with same results -

I have a couple of days yet before I HAVE to RMA it back to NewEgg -

I'm going to do some more looking and will check back here later - any ideas will be appreciated :)

    Thanks

Did the usb hub come with drivers for 98se? Did ye install them? Do other usb devices work?

theefool, Thanks for quick reply, YES the 1st link you give does show that the device is NOT compatable, however the link I gave in the 1st post, go the Manufacturer's Product Page > Product Specs and it clearly shows as compatable with 98SE, this is the page I used for reference, clearly the wrong info however :-(

The link to the Hub you gave, I may just get one of those, IT does show as compatable with 98SE as do several "internal" combos (hubs and readers) I've seen on NewEgg - tomorrow I'll have to pull the tower apart and see if there is a USB connection open on the MB, if not I probably will get a external Hub and single card reader -

If you can think of anything else I might need to check on BEFORE I order again, let me know, I'll be checking back later -

    THANKS again
