USB Flash drive problem

I recently had to reinstall Windows XP Pro, and now my Lexar Jumpdrive flash drive is acting strangely. When I plug it in to a USB slot, it won't show a drive description in windows explorer. It just stays blank, although I can see all the files and directories in it. I also can't save files to it in the long filename format, but only in the old 8.3 (DOS) format. I have tried all the different USB ports on my PC, the front and rear that plug into the motherboard, and the rear that are embedded into the motherboard. The flash still works perfectly in other PC's. I went to the Lexar site, and they do not have any XP specific drivers for the Jumpdrive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Don't feel bad i orrwed my girlfriends 512MB lexar flash drive to make a backup of a fw files and it deleted all her college work!
Luckly she had a backup on her laptop i give her a year ago!!
i managed to fix it by messing with it but really cant say how i did it spurt of the moment thingy so i am still confused of what happened and how it got fixed!
ish i could be more of a help to you try emailing lexar and telling them your prob maybe they cn figure it out since it is there product they have a responsibilty to help all they can!

 

I use a lexar 256mb jump drive in my laptop. It has 2 physical hard drives. One in W98SE and the other XP Pro. To get it working in W98SE I had to download a driver from www.Lexarmedia.com

In XP Pro, the generic M$ driver recognises it, no lexar driver required, or available apparently.

May I suggest that you try "Add new hardware" and work your way through that. It may need the generic driver reloaded. Bazza
