USB flash drives on network

If I plug my USB flash drive into my networked pc, can the network manager see the contents of it ? I know he could look at my area on the network if he wanted to. Can he detect any naughty programs I run from the drive ? How would he do it ?

 

Unless you share the drive it will not be annouced on the network, but if your company has monitoring software installed on the PC he could know everything you do.

 

that is almost true. if it is 2000 or xp the system as an administrative share that is hidden. if he wanted to access it is is as simple as "net use * \\computer or ip\drive letter $" aka "net use * \\toms\c$"

 

right, he was asking about a usb key.. not his hidden admin shares,ect..

 

no, he asked if a usb drive could be seen on the network by the admin and if so how. he said nothing about a key

 

usb flash drive = usb key = thumb drive = jump drive

 

excuse me , I didn't know the USB drives automatically mount as admin shares. I never heard that before, nor have I noticed it.

 

What software would he need on the pc to see the contents of my USB drive ?

 

you are correct, admin shares are not automatic on usb devices, my mistake
