    I have Win7. and a 1. TB. Hard Drive.

I Turn my USB 1. TB. Hard Drive on and go to Disc Manage.

I then get the Initialize Disc Window for the new USB Hard Drive and all goes good.

Now I Right Click on the USB Hard Drive to Format it and the Window opens.
It says Pick a Size Between the MAX and MIN of the Hard Drive Size in MB.

    It says
    MAX 953867 MB.
    MIN 8. MB.

And whare I can Type in a Number in the Box it says
    Sample Volume Size 953867 MB.

But this Number 953867 MB. is what the MAX says do they not want a Number Between the MAX and MIN?

Or what do I not understand Please help?

The size you want -basically-I tend to use more than one partition.
You can accept the maximum size , but if you create two, or, even three partitions, then you can keep the first s the Windows , and programs partition, and a second one for data- You can then save all your data to the second partition.
You can also, move any downloads,or documents to the second partition, so that if Windows plays up,and you need to re-install, then you don't lose your data.
You can create another, if you wish, to use for recovery, using a program like aomei -The free version ......
    https://www.backup-utility.com/download.html?ref=en.nav.downloads
especially as Windows 7 is losing any Microsoft assistance early next year.
This way, once W7 is installed and programs/updates etc: you can always go back to a clean install.
My way- Something like - 300gb for Windows 7, 600gb for data, and 60gb for recovery for Aomei recovery.
I would also make system recovery media when W7 is completely done. Then whatver happens , you have good recovery options, even if the hard drive gets faulty over time.

If this new drive is to hold your system images there isn't anything to gain by partitioning it so just format it to the maximum size.

Thank for getting back to me.
And because I am going to be useing the Whole 1. TB. Hard Drive for just Storage I will keep it as is.

But one thing I do not understand?

It says Pick a Size Between MAX 953867 MB. and MIN 8. MB.

And it has 953867 MB. in the Box for the Volume Size.

But 953867 MB. is the MAX Size should it not be a little bit smaller?

Well I did everything and it says it was doing a Quick Format.

So I removed the Check from Quick Format and let it go.

I just came back after a Couple of Hours and a window was on screen.

    It says
You Must Format The Drive Before You Can Use It.
Do You Want To Format It.

    So I Click OK.

    Then a window says
Windows Can Not Format The Drive Please Check That All Connections Are Good.

The Drive is a SATA 3. Drive with No Jumpers on it.
You Just Push it into the USB Dock.

And yes Windows does See it because I had it Initialize the Drive???

Are we talking about a USB external HD thats new?
If so its all 'plug n play', why format or mess with initializing?

Or an internal sata drive mounted externally, using a sata to usb adapter?
A used drive that you need to format?

    Two things please -

    - a readable screenshot of Disk Management

    - details of the drive and dock please, ideally by linking us to a web page.

It is a New SATA 3. Hard Drive for installing into a DeskTop PC.

But I have a USB Docking Station to put 4. of these into.
So my the USB Dock Plugs into my DeskTop PC. with a USB 3. Cable.

A poor connection in the dock could explain your problems. Try inserting the drive into a different slot and also try connecting the dock into a different USB3 port.

    Where's the screenshot?

There is nothing to take a screen shot of.

Windows just gives this one screen
Windows can not Format this Drive.

I want to see the Disk Management screen with the drive connected but before you try to format it.

I had an Idea can I Re Initialize a Hard Drive?

When I First Pluged the Drive into my USB Docking Station and went into Disc Manager.

Then it has an Auto Window that says Initialize Disc.
I know I did it Right but I may not have put a Check in Make MBR.

Do you think this could be it?
