Is there such a thing? I've found this, but it has basically NO information... looks like a laptop drive interface, but it's supposedly designed as an accessory to a specific drive?

I'm looking for a cable that I can connect to a laptop hard drive, and plug into a USB port in order to use it as an external drive (for troubleshooting laptop hard drives). I currently have an external enclosure that I use, but it'd be much simpler to have just a cable.

Actually... doing a little Googling, I found this:

    Would that do the trick?

Does anyone have a cable like what I'm talking about? If so, what specific cable do you have, and does it work well?

    Hey plodr,

It doesn't work. It only works with 2.5" IDE drives (most, if not all, laptop hard drives are 2.5" SATA connection).

    Hello,
Actually the adapter that plodr linked to does support 2.5 SATA. It just needs another cable attached to the drive along with the SATA data cable.

You are wrong. If you pay attention to that picture, the adaptor comes with both sides. I have one...

This IDE & SATA to USB adapter cable lets you access any 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch IDE or SATA 1.5 Gb/s hard drive or 5.25-inch optical drive through a USB port.

Well... apparently I didn't look closely enough at my device. Yeah, it takes the extra cables for SATA. Sweet!
