USB issues in Windows 7

I was running Windows XP until installing Windows 7 recently. I never had any problems with my USB ports until right after the change. Now, the ports will read devices just fine (i.e. I can print, use a gamepad, etc.), but when I try to connect any storage device (external hard drive, thumb drive, MP3 player, Blackberry, etc.), every time I transfer anything to the device, it will get between 1/4 to 1/2 way finished and then the transfer will fail. When it fails, the error message says it can no longer find the drive. Afterwards, the drive still appears and has a drive letter, but looks to be blank and can't be written to. When I restart, the drive works again until next time I start a transfer. Also, I can read from drives just fine; it's only when I try to write to them that the problem comes up.

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi

Was this a clean install of Windows 7 of an upgrade from XP?

Did you install all of the drivers for your model of PC or Motherboard from ones that are Windows 7 compatible? especially the chipset driver, do look in Device Manager for any yellow ! marks and if you have any what are they next too?

To aid in helping if a driver issue, do run the below, either just post the Make and Model of PC or the Make and Model of Motherboard, or attach the Everest log.
