i have a new system i just built for a friend to use as a family comp. it is running xp sp2. i am using a compaq usb keyboad that i am using on it. when pluged it in it kept saying it found new hardware, i let it install the drivers and it works fine but the found new hardware screen keeps popin up. and everytime i close the window it does it again. my question is, is there a way for me to tell it not to search for it? or make sure it knows its installed?

    thanks,

It's possible that the keyboard has hotkeys that require their own separate driver. If you can track it down, install it. If you know the model of PC the keyboard came with, you may be able to find the driver by searching the HP web site for it using the model number as a search base (HP and Compaq are the same company now).

When the hardware wizard pops up, just click Next, Next, Next, Next until you get to a screen that says it could not install the driver. There will be a box that you can check or uncheck (I think it's checked by default) that says something like "Do not prompt to install this hardware again". Make sure that's checked and click Finish or OK, or whatever it is, and that should do it.
