Plug it into the PC, cancel the hardware wizard when it opens. Then download, unzip, and run Unknown Devices. Double click the big question mark icon to run the program. When it shows the list, right click on the USB LAN device (it is likely going to be the only unknown item listed), then select "Device Details". Copy-n-paste that info in to Notepad and post it here... we should be able to track down the driver using that info (no guarantees tho' ;) ).

I may have located the driver you need - please provide the version of Windows you're using: Win7 64bit, Vista 32bit, WinXP, etc.... If I can, I'll attach it here, otherwise I'll provide a link....

The driver attached in ZIP format is supposed to be compatible with XP... if it doesn't work, please let us know and we'll try again ;)

To install: unzip the download; plug in the device; cancel the wizard; go to the Device Manager and follow the steps in this post. Start at "Step 1" and ignore any references to 'gateway' (I originally posted those steps for someone with a Gateway laptop that had wifi problems), also, ignore anything mentioned after the screen shot.

GOOD LUCK! Let us know how things work out....

:( Well, I tried.... I do have another one attached here... but instead of using the method outlined in the thread I linked to in post #10, try to "force" Windows to use the driver:

    1. download and unzip the driver attached below
    2. go to the Device Manager and right click on the device you want to install, select "Update Driver" (or whatever the choice is)
    3. In the Hardware Wizard, select the bottom circle for "Don't search"...
    4. I'm not using XP right now, so this is from memory: you should get a list of various devices; scroll down and select Network Adapters
    5. Click the Have Disk button and point the wizard to the unzipped driver from step1
    6. If you get any warnings, simply "force" Windows to use the driver by selecting "install anyway" whenever needed... (I have installed MANY devices this way; it works REALLY well with modems and network devices; many of these hardware devices use the same chips, but a driver from "brand A" won't work with "brand B" by using normal methods; but when "forced", everything ends up working perfectly)

Like I said, I'm not using an XP system now, and I don't remember the exact steps around steps 4 & 5 above, but it's real close... if this new driver doesn't work, try these same steps with the driver from post #10 above... you can also try the steps in this article which appear to be the same as what I just described, just explained much more thoroughly.

I have also located a 3rd driver but it's a "setup.exe" installer and too large to attach here as a single file... if none of the above drivers/methods work, post here and I'll figure something out..... GOOD LUCK!

Sorry...how do I move my post to that forum (it won't let me attach the same file to a new thread in the malware removal forum)

I am not sure why you cannot attach the file. Just start a new thread with your question about attaching the file. Somebody will help you out.

This 3rd driver was too large to attach as a single file... I used 7zip to create a multi-part ZIP file. Download each file attached below to the same folder. Then use either 7zip (it's free) or WinRAR (it's not free) to combine the files in to a single file by right clicking on the first file (it has a .001 extension) and selecting "Extract here". Then run the resulting "setup.exe" file.

NOTE: Before extracting, you MUST rename each file first: remove the .ZIP from the end of each file, otherwise they will not extract correctly (I had to add the .ZIP in order to upload the files). If this one doesn't work, I think we'll be out of luck. However, I do have a knack for finding obscure drivers.

GOOD LUCK! I hope this one works! (fingers crossed)

As to the Google problems: if you can access other web sites, and it's mainly Google that doesn't open, you may have a hijacked HOSTS file. Go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc and locate the HOSTS file; double-click it and select "Notepad" as the program to open it with. The WinXP default HOSTS file looks like this:
A hijacked HOSTS file will have an IP address different than 127.0.0.1 and where it says "local host" will be "www.google.com". So, as an example, in a hijacked HOSTS file, the last line will look like this:
Hijacked hosts files are commonly used by malware to block internet access and to route traffic to rogue/infected sites. In this example, when you type "www.google.com" in to the address bar on your browser, you'd be sent to 98.76.54.32.

The IP address I used in my example above is something I made up, and will (of course) not be the same as in a hijacked hosts file, and typically there will be numerous entries for all variations of Google (and sometimes Yahoo also).

But this is off topic here.....
    ;)

You should start your own thread in the Drivers Forum. Also do not provide an email address unless you want to be bombarded with spam. What OS are you using? Also 32bit or 64bit.

If you have a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager for your device, please provide the Vendor and Device Id by right clicking the device, select properties, details tab.
