    Hi all.

Des anyone know of a freeware that allows me to measure what my usb ports are doing and how fast?
The problem is that when i plug my camera into my usb a message says that its not plugged into a high speed usb2 port.
how do i find out which ports are usb2??

I have Windows XP Pro SP2 installed and my Mobo supports usb 2
so why are only some of my ports usb 2??

    my devce manager shows:-

    Generic USB Hub
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
Standard Open HCD USB Host Controller
Standard Open HCD USB Host Controller
    USB Root Hub
    USB Root Hub
    USB Root Hub

    Any ideas guys and gals?
    Help!!!:(

Update the drivers yet? Many people are unaware there are motherboard drivers for that.

Yes I have the latest drivers from Asus.

Some of my ports are apparently USB 2 high speed.

Some arent I want to know how i can tell?

    Cheers

What model motherboard do you have?

I've seen on older systems that some motherboards that had the USB2 ports seperate from the motherboard attached through a ribbon cable. These would usually screw into where a PCI card would normally go. Perhaps this is the case (longshot I know ;)).

    Mobo - Asus A7n8x-x nforce 2 400

I do have 2 extra USB ports as you say on an extension at the rear via a cable to some usb header pins on the motherboard.
the other 4 are on the motherboard itself..

    Does this help?

Yes it does help thank you.

All the USB ports on the motherboard should be USB 2.0 (4 onboard + 2 additional ports).

Silly question, but you're sure its not telling you that you've plugged in a non-highspeed USB device into a highspeed port?

Also have you gotten you Windows updates (especially potential h/w updates)?

Definatley. It tells me that "the device could perform faster if it is plugged into a high speed usb port!"

Windows update (up to date !!) lol

Did you look in the BIOS? The setting for the Intergrated Peripherals USB Controllers should be [V1.1+V2.0]. If it's just [V1.1] then that's your problem.

It appears the windows SP2 Hotfix I needed was

    (WindowsXP-KB908673-x86-ENU.exe)

    It was not properly installed.

Further to you point about Microsoft Update I did a search and found this hotfix.
When I ran it my problem was solved.
Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction Valhallis.

    Respect.

    :) :) :) :)
