USB Ports Not Working - 3 Month Old High End Build

Having an odd problem with all USB ports going out on my system. This is a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UDR3 mobo in a system I built about 3 months ago.
I've hooked up a PS2 mouse and keybd for now until I figure this out.

When I go to device manager under USB controllers, all ports have exclamations.
If I right click/uninstall each port and then right click again and scan for hardware changes they will all come back working.
When I reboot they all go out again until I repeat the uninstall/scan for changes procedure.

    Ports are listed as: Intel(R) ICH10 Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 3A3A, 3C, 34 - 39
The 2 USB 3.0 ports don't seem to have a problem but I also have nothing in those ports to confirm that they work or not.

During bootup, the USB ports seem to be working because I can get into bios with my wireless keyboard and my USB flash drive blinks.
Once I get out of Bios the ports are not working. This is verified on a reboot by hitting the F8 key to attempt to boot in safe mode
and then the keyboard will not allow selection with up/down arrow keys.

I have not yet overclocked this machine and the only Bios adjustment made was to get the RAM to run at 1600 mhz vs the 1033 it was running at when installed.

The only regular USB devices on this system are a wireless keyboard and USB Wacom tablet/mouse combo.
Had also been running Synergy with another computer on the network with each computer having it's own monitor so you can
move mouse from one computer to the other.

    Other system components:

    i7-930
    24GB G.Skill DDR3 1600 Ram, 6 x 4GB total (Model F3-12800CL7T-12GBTDD 2X)
    MSI GeForce GTX 480
    OS drive 300GB Veliciraptor
    5 x Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB drives
    Thermaltake W0133RU 1200W PSU
    Win 7/64 Pro

Someone else has suggested reinstalling the OS to rule out viruses but I'm just checking around before going that route. I have no symptoms of any viruses.

Any other ideas as to what could be going on here?

Did this just happen or from day 1? Only thing that I can think of is reinstalling the latest chipset drivers besides going back to BIOS defaults just to eliminate that variable first. Is there a new BIOS update that addresses this issue? That's all I got.

Wow, that rig is packed!:eek :drool Video editing?

Very large photoshop files. 400 to 800 megs. Also teaching myself Premier Pro editing. Ya gotta see Photoshop zoom in on a 1/2 gig file with no lag time.
It's pretty awesome. Apply filters almost instantly to big files as well.

No this just started Friday. System has been running great for 3 months. I had 12GB in there for about 30 days and then got the 2nd set of 12GB
with no issues for the last 6 weeks or so. There is a Bios update available but I read prior that if you have no problems leave it alone.
Maybe this is the time. I was going to just flash the Bios first to see what happens. Have also put in a tech request today with Gigabyte on the Mobo.

Heard of any viruses that would mess with USB drivers?

Yup, don't fix it unless you see your issue in the BIOS's change log between yours and the newest, there might be a couple. Have you tried re-installing the chipset drivers yet? When was the last time your W7 was updated? Usually not an issue.

Off topic, with that machine I would protect it with a minimum of a 1500VA UPS, if you haven't yet, as I've heard New York's power is none too steady.

Is there a Gigabyte forum? I have an eVGA X58 3X SLI mobo and my issues were resolved in their forums. Good luck.

Oh, no virus I've heard of.

Going to try the chipset drivers now. I just posted the problem to the Gigabyte forum as well. I allow the W7 updates all the time.

Yes the power here is not the best. This is the ups I'm running:
    CyberPower PR1500LCDRT2U 1500 VA 1000 Watts UPS

    Thanks!

I was just going to post that Intel recently came out with the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility 9.1.2.1008. This is not a driver but it installs the Windows INF files. The INF files inform the operating system how to properly configure the chipset for specific functionality, such as AGP, USB, Core PCI, and ISAPNP services.

This did not work either. I check the Bios update that's available for my board and it addresses USB 3.0 only. I'm going to wait to hear from Gigabyte directly on this.

One thing I have pinned down. If I uninstall the USB drivers while they are not working, I can force the system to reinstall them and USB works. Then when I reboot, USB is not working.

If I uninstall the drivers and do not force reinstall and just reboot, the USB works upon reboot and only goes out again if I reboot again.

Thanks for everyones help here. Will post again with further questions and when I fig out the solution.

Could it just be the motherboard?

Problem fixed. After many messages on the Gigabyte message boards I just reinstalled the OS on a brand new new drive and all ports are working fine. I'm wiping out the old OS drive to clone the new setup on there and shelve it for future security.

    Thanks for everyones help!

One of the few times I've heard that a reformat worked when nothing else would. Obviously something got corrupted along the way. I'd check your RAM and first HDD just to eliminate those factors.

Maybe a Windows repar install may have worked but I needed another drive so I did it that way the the OS drive is now new.

What RAM tests do you recommend?

    Memtest86+, always worth a try.
