USB Ports Stopped Working and Start up Problems

Hi there,

I turned my pc on for the first time in a couple of days and its started acting strange.

First off, I logged in and it said all the USB devices were malfunctioning and wouldn't recognise my keyboard, mouse or modem. When I reset the pc and turned it back on, it wouldn't get past the first screen. I have an Abit motherboard so the first screen that comes up just says to press different keys for setup or the post screen etc. After leaving it a few minutes and it still not loading I turned it off.

When I turned it on the next day, everything loaded normally and I could use all the devices...until the USB ports seemed to cancell themselves again, and the same bubble kept popping up stating the USB device is not recognised and has malfunctioned.

I've tried cleaning the PC, taking and out putting back in USB devices etc but nothing is working for me. As both my keyboard and mouse are both USB, I can't even adjust setting in windows to try and update the chipset for the motherboard, or update the USB drivers.

I'm stumped as to what to do now, the pc needs 5 minutes or so to get past the first screen, and when it loads no USB can be used.

Please help!

 

If plodr's suggestions don't work, you may want to look at the PSU. The way your computer is acting, its power supply could be on its way out.
