WEll i dont really got alot of usb devices.. i got like 3 on the back and 1 of them is a mouse but we used an adapter to get it pluged into the mouse hole.

Anyway this only happened twice on this computer where when i start it its just stay hangin at the compaq screen (its goes compact > window xp > welcome > desktop window) and the solution is to take out all the usb devices (not the mouse) and restart the computer which brings it back to normal.. whats causing this? how can it be avoided?

what devices in particular do you have?
Sounds to me that since you changed the mouse adaptor, you have two other devices left on the USB interface?
Most probably a printer and your modem connection(unless you run ethernet)?

If you haven't recently installed an OS update, such as SP2 then its not likely to be a driver issue and may be the result of something else like faulty hardware?
See if it will boot with only one device connected! If unsuccessful, swap em and try again!!

    Regards...

Right click my computer ...it will say if its sp2 ....or go to control panel/ add-remove/ and scroll down to the bottom ...see if it is there.

Have you tried plugging your USB devices into different ports. I'm assuming you are plugging them in the back right now. Try putting them in the front panel ports and see if that helps.

no the mouse is not including 3 other usb devices.

Alright so i tryed just pluging one and it didn't work so i tryed plugin another one at the same place as i just did and it worked.. so i pluged a second and it dint work so i changed devices and pluged it again.. and it worked but the last one which is the usb modem.. when i plug it in at any of the remaining usb port it doesnt work.
