Okay I have a strange problem that I can't figure out. I've fixed a large amount of problems in my past but this one has me stumped. So don't be afraid to get a little advanced or anything in a reply, i'll tell you if I don't understand something. Okay so here we go. I will be sitting here using my computer and things will randomly stop working. My USB Hub, My USB Mouse, And my USB wireless card. Strangely though, my keyboard doesn't stop working unless it's plugged into the hub when the hub dies. Usually my mouse, wireless card, and keyboard are all plugged directly into ports on the mobo. I've attached a picture of my system spec summary. I hope it helps. I don't know what's up with this.

Is your computer set to turn off USB hubs to save power? Open device manager, open the properties for the failing hub and open the "Power Management' tab (note: not all devices under USB-controllers have this option). Uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' and click OK.
Report if this solves the issue.

It's telling me that they are all self powered. Which isn't true, because they all run off of the motherboard. I have a separate hub, which has it's own AC adaptor, but that's not hooked up because i'm running it off the power from the port. This problem was occuring before the hub was installed so I know the hub isn't causing an issue.

Sorry for the double post, but let me go over what's been going on and what i've been doing to temporarily resolve it. Basically the usb ports (not all at the same time, sometimes it's one or two) shut off and don't work again until I physically unplug my computer from the wall for about 30 seconds. I've fried two mice (though it may be the mouse that was at fault there because they were identical). I am going crazy, I don't know what's wrong. Two of my USB ports on the front of my computer are broken because the small white plastic pieces broke off, but those shouldn't be interfering and I haven't identified which ones they are so I haven't disabled them yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And as I said above, I checked all the usb devices under power options and it says they are all self powered.

This may help. But first I need to know if you have an HP, DIY system, or any other brand.

Reason being, I had an older HP in which i upgraded the bios. Before that I had added a USB hub because it originally only had two USB ports on the system itself. I spoke to a gentleman that said when the bios goes out of date but you upgrade hardware and even the platform of the system that the IO interface can get mixed up. I personally never had this problem but upgraded my bios anyway. He may have been just trying one of his pitches.

The other thing is, I work in a lab with Dell systems. These systems have I beleive 6 or more USB ports (there are also some on the monitors as well). Anyway with all the equipment that's hooked to the USB ports this can cause a problem now and again because of the power consumption of the devices that are plugged into the USB ports. In this case a USB switcher linked to a scanner which is connected to the Mainboard happens to do this.

At times the USB ports on the monitor will not recognize USB storage devices, cameras, or other devices if the scanner has been issued access to the computer via the USB switcher. In the case with these systems we simply cant use every bit of hardware at once and it must be switched over to a second computer instead. This is frustrating at times but then again there are always limitations in the technology world.

    This might help some.
