    Hi all

This is my first post so please be gentle :)

I purchased the following http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136214 in the hope to be able to recover some data from a laptop SATA HD. Great power it up attach as USB, however although XP goes through the found new hardware scenario, but it doesn't add an external drive to My Computer or appear in disk management.

I tried a Dell IDE drive and this worked fine, plus a known working SATA HD from my own laptop and this doesnt get picked up. So wondered if anyone out there uses one of these or has any theory why this might not work.

    Thanks in advance

Following satrows advice connecting the drive go to control panel, admin tools, disk management and look for the drive there.

This may indicate a defective part. I would return it to Ebuyer for a replacement, just to be on the safe side.

Why don't you put the the old sata drive in your sata laptop then since you have the hard drive cover off your laptop? They're all the same size with the same connectors?

    Just wondered...

ok guys think i might have this resolved just updated my mobo drivers didnt realise they were out of date, now my own SATA HD works yippeeeee

The one that i was concerned about doesn't however i have just noticed that the HD casing is broken and dented, so i am putting that down to a severely damaged HD

    What say you ?
