    Alright folks,

I have tried hooking up my Usb storage into the back of my DVD player recently with some success.
When I use the little portable pen (8gb) it works no problem and picks up the info.
However when I hook up my External Hard drive it seems to communicate initially but then stops and doesn't display any of the contents.

Does anyone know why these are incompatible, and if anything can be done to enable it to work?

    Ta!

It could be that the DVD player has a limit of the size of storage unit it can access and/or recognize. A good slow reading of the user guide/manual should reveal this info. If you post the make and model of the DVD player and the external hard drive, and possibly the USB thumb drive (or flash drive or pen drive or jump drive or whatever people call 'em these days), maybe we can research it for you and shed some light on the topic..... now that I have a home DVD player that can play DivX and XViD encoded video files, I really wish it had a USB port! LOL But I can squeeze up to 7 movies on a single DVD and that works out fine. ;)

    Some additional possibilities to consider:

    1) Is the hard drive powered from the USB plug or an AC adapter? The DVD player USB plug may not provide enough power for a USB powered external hard drive as opposed to a thumb drive.

    2) What is the drive format? FAT32? NTFS? Can the DVD player read it?

It is powered from an adapter; but I had it plugged in and switched on.....

How do I find out the drive format?

I couldn't find anything in the guide referring to storage size limits I'm afraid.

The Dvd player is a samsung h1080:

    The storage is a Western Digital-Elements-DD3 5 640

The pen is a standard play 8gb:

    Thanks for the help folks!

To find out HDD format type, right click in My Computer your C drive and choose Properties and next to File System it will tell you.
