USB virus scan

Hi
Is there a way to scan USB sticks/external HD's as soon as they are connected?

My idea/dream:

1. No access to newly connected USB sticks, external HD's until scan has been completed.

2. No scan when the device is connected to the same home/office network since last scan.

3. Above condition revoked when the device has been connected somwhere else since last scan.

4. No need to have Anti Virus on device, automatic/forced start of PC/Laptop AV will do.

We are using BitDefender Internet security 2009 on Win XP Home/Pro, which only pop's up a suggestion to scan a newly connected device.

I'd agree with Dom as dont think their is an app to cover all that, was thinging that Network Access Protection may help you, but reading over the docs I have its not really for home use as specific criteria in a home network are not likely to be met and its optiosn dont cover all your points.

I would go with Doms suggestion of AVG 9 Free and also use this Panda USB Autorun tools to disable Autorun that XP has enabled by default (Windows 7 doesnt, but some apps may re-enable it in some circumstances *this is just for info for others*) Disabling autorun stops any USB pen drive from autoruning and potentially infecting a machine, so conbination of AVG and disabling Autorun would be a step forward in protection from malware spread via USB.
