    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
    Java(TM) 6 Update 7
    LiveUpdate Notice (Symantec Corporation)

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4EFB-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-9EB4-FE6FA694B13E} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-9EB4-FE6FA694B13E} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CPMefe78353] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\hilavabi.dll",a
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - Cmdmapping - (no file) (HKCU)
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: c:\windows\system32\hilavabi.dll

NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now we need to cleanup after Norton/Symantec since you are not using their software anymore but it is still present. Please run the below then reboot. After reboot run it one more time.

    Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT)

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    It's all good now...Thanks!

No more pop-ups or vundo malware.

    Thanks for all the help.

How often should I perform these checks, what programs should I beware of and which of these programs should I buy and keep around? The service comes with Verizon internet security, but it's really weak and clashes with protools software.

    Re: It's all good now...Thanks!

    You're welcome.

Looks like you forgot to fix the below:

    O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-9EB4-FE6FA694B13E} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-9EB4-FE6FA694B13E} - (no file)

Try again and then double check your log afterwards to make sure they were fixed. You must have all browser windows closed before clicking Fix checked.

Your logs are otherwise clean and the above are minor issues.

I believe all of your questions are answered in the below final instructions and the given link.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Re: It's all good now...Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I went on a site I used to used and noticed the screen would pop away to another. It's a site I download bittorrents from. I deleted the site and the software. It's not worth the hassle anymore.

    Re: Should I be worried?

No they were in your first logs too. Even the SUPERAntiSpyware log showed one of them.

I suggest that you do the below.

First run this: Resetting Registry and File Permissions

Now run MBAM again and first update. Then run a full scand and fix anything it finds. Then immediately reboot!!!

After reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and first update. Then run a scan and fix everything it find. Then immediately reboot!!!

After this last reboot, run another scan with MBAM and now attach the two new logs from MBAM and the new SUPERAntiSpyware log.

You do not have the current version of SUPERAntiSpyware.

    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system and fix all problems it finds.
    • And then immediately reboot.
    • After reboot you need to run another scan to make sure the problems do not come back.
    • Attach this last log.
