I am running windows XP. I have 4 user accounts on my computer and when I try to log in to any of the accounts my computer will start to log in, play the tune and flash the background and then log itself back off. It does this on all accounts and also does it in safe mode. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Normally when this happens it means that the c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe file has been deleted or corrupted. Or that the registry keys related to loading this file have been modified. A possible fix for the registry is the below

If the userinit.exe file has been deleted, you will need to restore a copy using the Recovery Console or by slaving your hard disk to another PC with the same windows version so you can copy the file back to its proper location.

All of the above is more of a topic for the Software Forum so I'm going to move this thread to the Software Forum.
