...or in XP go to Start>>Control Panel>>User Accounts
The account in question should be there and you can 'check it out'
    :)

in contol panel/admin tools/computer management and users, there are all the accounts I expected, plus admin, plus one named support_388945a0 with a full name of cn=microsoft and an note that says this is a vendors account for the hhelp and support service plus one other named helpassistance for providing remote access. None named the DJDD6891 though

now that I have played with admin tools, I go to start menu/control panel/ User Accounts, and none of my 4+ user accounts are listed. I can now only access them in admin tools. What did I do wrong? Please help.

As far as the user accounts are concered ...I think you'll only see them in the admin accout ...unless all are set to have the same properties/permissions (administrative).
Where you able to do the uninstall, which I think was the original issue?:) :)

yes, thanks. uninstall complete. doing a sfc /scannow resolved the user accounts disappearing issue, even though I don't have the windows media cd rom it asked for when it completed running. I called Dell to request the cd.
