userenv error in event viewer

    "This computer is in manual policy mode, but the policy file cannot be found. Windows is logging you on without applying any policy. Return value (The system cannot find the file specified. )."

    what does this mean and how do i fix it?

    Sounds like someone or some program changed a registry setting. If you are comfortable editing the registry this page should help. Might want to set a restore point, back up the registry, or back up the system before hand.

    should i set it to automatic or disable it?

    The MS page applies if you are running NT or 2000 server. Are you?

    If you are running XP, then these instructions will do it.
    You want 0 and not 2.

    i set it to 0 and i have not received any errors about it since. thank you very much.
