Using agp vid cards with no agp

Ok, I gotta be quick. I just bought a new video card for my computer, but the problem is my computer doesn't have an AGP port. It has a place for the port, but no port (see below). Can I buy just a port? Or is there a PCI adapter I can buy? A new MB/computer is COMPLETELY out of the question. And so is another video card. The computer is out of warranty, so I can't take it back.

    Thanks for any help!

    Umm, No pic?

If there's not an AGP slot and you've got an AGP card I think you're outta luck.
I'm not aware of any PCI to AGP adapters.

What sort of computer is it?

the brown slot isn't there, but there's a place on the bus for it. i think it may have just been left off during manufacturing.

If the motherboard does not have an AGP slot, then there is nothing you can do with the AGP video card. :( Sorry. There are no converters or adapters. Perhaps if you posted the make and model of the motherboard, we could offer some suggestions on how to proceed, but if there's no AGP slot on the board, the card is not going to be of any use.

I don't want to rub salt in to your wounds, but this is why we strongly suggest that people do a minimum of research before purchasing components, especially if the components cannot be returned or exchanged....

None of the computer manufacturers make their own motherboards.
The contract with motherboard manufacturers to make motherboards for them.
A lot of them had a version of a motherboard made with the AGP slot left off.
If you have the misfortune to have one like that your only option for a add-in video card is a PCI video card. [the newer PCI-E video cards will NOT work] .

    HI

Highly doubt that the area you highlighted in your image was ever for a AGP port as no GFX card I know of would fit in that area as CPU would be in the way.

Like the others never heard of a AGP > PCI/PCIe adaptor, sadly the specs of both systems likely wouldnt marry well at all, differing bus speeds and all.

To jump to newer technology needs you to update your PC, if your current PC is PCI then to go to AGP you need a motherboard thats is AGP compatible, then going from AGP to PCIe you need a PCIe compatible motherboard etc

I bought it at a garage sale for $6; I knew I had no AGP slot on mine BUT there was a place on the mb. THX.

Computer cases can generally acommodate a variety of motherboards. Thus, your case could, indeed, accommodate a motherboard with an AGP slot. Those slots, or openings, on back of the case can be used for PCI cards, AGP cards, or PCI Express cards. Again, it just depends on what's on the motherboard.

That looks like a Micro ATX ... they usually don't come with AGP or PCIE ... although sometimes they do ... unfortunately bud your best off cutting your losses and getting a new PCI card.
