Hi, there is a computer at a friends company that they use to surf the internet. I went up there today and you have difficulty getting past the login screen when starting the computer. There is lots of malware and they said it has always been a problem. Windows updates wont even install on the computer. What I want to do is give my friend a CD to run virus and spyware scans at bootup and not use windows login. None of them are good with computers so I want to make it easy for them. If I need to tell them to start up from safe mode to run the scanners, whats the best way to explain it? What free software do you recommend for one time scans / burning to CD?

I am not looking for an all in 1 solution. I will go there in a few weeks and use the recommended procedures in the forum to get rid of each malware, but I want a stopgap to fill in until I do. I will also give them links to these forums.

There is not real cure all like this. You could make a bootable utility CD from of the many boot CD type utilities out there that contain a lot of tools (not a topic for this forum) but it still would require some knowledge on the end users part and it will not fix everything anyway since there is so much malware out their that goes undetected and unfixed by most tools anyway. Thus the reason this forum and others exist.

Run the READ & RUN ME. That's your best bet. Also see the Alternative Scans link at the end of the READ ME.
