using downloaded virus definitions?

    hi, would be great if someone can help me with this

    my connection is currently down, and i'm using mcafee virusscan plus (virusscan 11.0). how do i update my definitions using the ones i downloaded off this forum?

    If you downloaded from MG's you actually just downloaded the sdat file from McAfee.

    After downloading it, just double click on it to run it. The current file name is sdat5029.exe which you get from this link: McAfee Virus SuperDAT Definitions Update 5029

    thanks for the reply.

    i did that, but an error message popped up saying 'cannot find qualifying mcafee programs', even though i'm using virusscan 11.0

    any help?

    I cannot help you with that. It either means do not have a valid supported and licensed program installed or that something is wrong with your installation. If you purchased McAfee you will have to call there tech support. Other than that try running this McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool to remove McAfee. Then reboot, reinstall and then see if you can update.
