Using malware removal tools

I am trying to follow clean up procedures, http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 and have 2 questions;
1. when I run Microsoft Windows Malicious Software removal tool, does it clean/fix automatically or do I have to click on something? I tried to go to the help section and I get "page cannot be displayed".
2. when I run Spybot Search & Destroy, I click immunize but i don't see S&D helper.

1. Just run teh tool there is nothig else you have to do.

2. When you Immunize; Spybot is making changes to the Registry.

 

While following the steps, (I'm letting you know in hopes of helping someone, errrr...equally lacking in skills).
1. I got confused on the MS Win Malware Removal an MS Win Defender...I did not make a note as what they were saved as.
2. I rebooted and ran Bit Defender which found nothing, then shut off and turned back on the system restore. I also changed back setting, "do not show hidden files and folders".
3. I got messages that there may be microsoft updates, checked and there were no critical updates needed. Also, I got a message that my EZ AV had expired.
4. Realizing I did not complete the steps, (stopped when Bit defender said they found nothing) I signed back on to come here and found Microsoft had changed my home page.
5. I started downloading Avast, and as I sit here waiting for it to load I'm wondering; if I've made too many mistakes to proceed and should start the whole process over, if any of my family members have come in and used the computer inbetween all this, why the heck I changed the hidden files setting without checking here first, if you're laughing at me right now or just want to box my ears.
6. I am going back to show hidden files and then run Panda and then Highjack this.

 

Go ahead and run the procedures and post your logs. SOmetimes a log comes back clean and another shows something.
