got both from majorgeeks, the DVD Fab HD Decrypter 4 recommended on the page with ripit...
ripit tells me I have older version of decrypter, need 3.5.4.0...
    suggests download...
this doesn't work, probably because the ripIt4me site is gone.
Where can I safely get a decoder that will work? Is there anything else I can try?

I dont know anything about ripit!

I use DVD43 & DVDshrink, sometimes on rare occasion to over come "sony ARCO's" I'll use DVDfab decrypter

DVD43 runs silently in the background, there a little yellow smiley face visible in your tray when it running/working it turns green

DVD43 & DVDfab sometimes don't play well together your can overcome this by right clicking on the smiley face in your tray and close it that will turn it off till you reboot or reactivate thru start/programs

when using DVDfab save file to desktop or where ever, after saved then delete the empty audio file then shrink or whatever other program you use will work without error:)

    Here's the link for DVD43 http://www.dvd43.com/

I use shrink because I dont waste money on DL media and beside that, by default shrink uses Nero's burning ROM :major

Dvd fab will work. it just wont burn without the upgrade. Let it decrypt, then drag file into Nero, or browse to find. ed

RipIt4Me (which is shut down and no longer developed) used
DvdDecrypter, not DvdFABdecrypter. FAB is a whole other animal.

DvdDecrypter is also no longer developed, and v 3.54 was the last version made, and that is the version R4M was designed to use.

R4M will always try to go online to check for updates, and reports back with a "failed to update" message". It will then go on to happily use the available software versions that came with its own installation.

    EDIT ADDED
I just did a quick search here on the site and found no download for dvdDecrypter, so if it is alright, here is a link from elsewhere :)
