Is it my imagination, or is the newest uTorrent (version 1.7.7) slower than older versions? I've been running uTorrent v1.6.1 build 490 since it was released over a year ago and it's always performed well. I said "what the heck, I'll update it" and installed the new one v1.7.7. I had the automatic update turned off. Anyway, it seems slower... like ALOT slower... but then again, it's downloading right now at over 300k, so I could be imagining things.... has anyone else noticed a difference? I tracked down v1.6.1 and downloaded it for 'safe keeping'... just in case... has anyone else noticed that v1.7.7 seems slower?

somewhere i remember people complaining about new features that sucked, ie made things worse. But i can't seem to find a link or proof of that. But i do remember people telling me not to upgrade for some reason.

It may be me being paranoid, but I noticed newer versions of uTorrent "phoning home" to Bit Torrent after they bought them out. I've since stopped using uTorrent. I currently use Azureus.

I am still using uTorrent v1.6.1 build 474 after that build, utorrent was bought by the compagny bittorrent i never upgrade after that.....

And still downloading around 300 to 500 kb/s.....

So i will stick with that one for a long time..... :)

I new there was a reason I was sticking with the older version. Now that you guys mention it, I remember reading something about versions after 1.6.1 doing the 'phone home' thing. When my current DLs finish, I think I'll remove 1.7.7 and go back to 1.6.1....
    :cool Thanks!

Now that I've spent a few days with 1.7.7, I'd definitely say that 1.6.1 is faster....

i really don't notice any speed difference...but then again i don't really download any huge files via torrents

Interesting convo, I'm also running 1.7.7 right now and it seems to work OK but is slower than the previous one I had. Never heard about it phoning home, firewall said nothing.

This is the 3rd day since I updated to 1.7.7. I just checked my downloads and I have 3 going, and have red arrows on all 3. With 1.6.1 I never had red arrows, NEVER! This is one of the rare cases when updating to a current release is not the best course of action.... When these downloads finish, I am absolutely going back to 1.6.1. If there was any chance I was going to keep 1.7.7, that chance has disappeared.

Install Peer Guardian and watch the blocked IP's, my best is that uTorrent phones home in almost all cases. http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/

Let me know if I'm wrong, and which version you are using, I liked it when I used to use it.
