I just reformatted one of my computers because i thought it needed a cleanup and it was just a web surfing computer anyways. Plus I couldn't drag and drop...

But here's the problem. The wireless network will not connect. Now, I don't know much about networking so I don't really know what information you need.

The operating system I am using is Windows XP service pack 2
I am using a D-Link wireless card - I don't remember which one. If you need, I will open up the case and check.
The modem I am trying to connect to is a D-Link DIR-655.

When I try to connect, it finishes connecting, but the connection does not finish resolving. It gets stuck on this step where it says Validating Identity. Now I leave it there for a while, and nothing happens. I really don't know what to do to get this computer to connect.

No I haven't tried connecting it by an actual network cable.

If you need anymore information I will try and find out.

Don't feel bad, I used to suck at networking, but for basic Windows XP or Vista internet, networking is really very simple.

I would shut off the computer, modem and router for a few minutes. Turn them all on, router and modem first to be sure the internet is connected when the computer starts.

Its a very good wireless router, so possibly be sure you have the latest driver for the wireless card in your PC.

Obviously, connecting by cable at least confirms that everything is working.

Well, I was good enough to set up a Counter-Strike server haha. I just had no idea why this wasn't working. I keep forgetting that resetting the router might help. I'll also get a driver on my USB key and try that.

I just don't know what the Validating Identity means because I usually don't see that. Maybe I just don't pay attention enough...

Wow, I'm such a noob. I should have just googled it haha.

I fixed it and everything works now and I can proceed with setting up my computer.

Anyways, for future users with this problem, I have a solution, thanks to gv from the Linksys forum.
