Vb.net Question

Hi all,

Just recently started learning vb.net and I've run into some problems. Anyhow I will address the issues right now. So, here it is. I obtained visual studio 2003 with the book I've bought and I've tried installing it uncusesfully a few times. Every time it would install the pre-requisites and then it would go about installing the visual studio. There are two options after you put in the serial number and chose the directory where to install it; Install the vb.net and .net framework. Anyway I beleive the files are corrupted with the .net framework....... The point that I'm getting at is that I cannot return the cd to replace it and even if they do return it it will take too long and I need it pretty much on daily basis. Before i confuse someone the visual studio works now when I did not choose to install .net framework but the latest service pack I have on there is 1 and i beleive they go up as high as 6 correct?
Like i stated before I'm very very new to this or as a matter of fact any programming package so I basically don't know what I'm doing. I guess what i want is to stabilise the product a little bit as it tends to crash from time to time and my computer is more then capable of handling it.
Another question that I'm thinking might be brought up is that it might have to do something on Windows media center I have installed.

All good I switched too Visual studio 2005 beta version seems to run ok so far...
