I am taking a VB.net class online through my local community college. My current project, although it is quite elementary, has encountered some kind of problem that gives the following text in the IMMEDIATE window:
A first chance exception of type 'System.FormatException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
A first chance exception of type 'System.FormatException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
The program runs exactly as desired. Can someone offer suggestions for what kind of bug I am looking for? If it would be better, I could zip the project and upload it for you to view.

    Thanks,
    Jason

I think we have it fihured out. The following is a post to my class website discussion board:
After thinking about it, I theorized that the text I was seeing in the IMMEDIATE window may be a stored log of events. That maybe it is storing information about my 'invalid data' that I used for testing the error trapping (Try/Catch). I restarted the computer thinking this may clear any logs with these errors. I opened VB and ran the project again. Here is my A-HAAA. Nothing shows up in the IMMEDIATE window when I run it valid data. Only after using invalid data do I see anything in the IMMEDIATE window. I now assume that this is simply a log that temporarily stores information about invalid data (and maybe other issues also that I have yet to encounter).
Does this make any sense to experienced programmers? Do you think we are on the right track? Our text has yet to explain the purpose of the IMMEDIATE window so I originally assumed it was reporting some kind of non-fatal bug.

    VB Student with another question

We are working with a small project that uses color and font dialog boxes to change text displayed on a form. I used text boxes to display calculated commission and total pay. The assignment requires us to allow the user to change the font and color of the output text. When I set the Read Only property of the text box to True, the text box will accept font changes from the user, but NOT color changes. When the Read Only property is False, both color and font changes are accepted from the user. If I use labels for the output, both color and font changes are accepted from the user. Can anyone provide any insight to why the color will not change, but the font will change in a text box with Read Only = True? The textbook even gives an example of using text boxes with Read Only = True. When typed in word for word, I get the same results...no change in color.

Using: MS Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition.
