VCN problem

Hi,

I'm trying to help out my dad using Real VCN.

When I try to connect to his computer, I need to put his IP address. Well, He has an IP address from his provider but he also has a different one when he hovers over the VCN icon in the taskbar, which appears like an IP address given by a router, although he doesn't have one.

I've been trying to connect with any of the two of woth combinations of both and it won't work.

Yesterday, I was able to connect to my mother-in-law's computer because she didn't have two IP addresses so it was easy.

I've searched all of RealVCN's documentation to no avail. What am I doing wrong? We're both on WinXP home.

What type of connection is he on?

You need his public IP.. if he goes to whatsmyip.com and tells you that number - that is the one you need. But depending on his connection type there may be other configs you need...

 

He has ADSL just like me.

I tried connecting solely with his public IP and it didn't work.

I'm thinking perhaps there is an XP firewall issue?

 

Could be a Windows firewall or it could also be an anti-virus/anti-spyware. The IT company I work for uses VNC for our clients. We also use Symantic Anti-virus for our clients, and we always have to make sure Symanic allows VNC, otherwise it will block it.

Also, make sure "Allow Incoming Connections" is check marked and a password is set. Also, if he has a router or built-in router, make sure port 5900 is open.
