I'm facing a strange problem with my PC for the last few days. After I start it, a vertical line starting from the bottom of the screen and ranging about a little more than half of the screen is sometimes displayed. Quite understandably, it's persisent and no matter what window I switch on, it's always there. If I reboot, sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not.
Any ideas as to what I can do to remove it? A Hijack This log of the system which was created while the line was on display is attached herewith. I couldn't figure out any anomalies at a glance though.
Thanks in advance for any help you might offer!

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

This does not sound like a malware problem. You should look into a possible hardware or driver problem for your video card. You may want to consider posting a message in the Hardware Forum.

However I do have to ask what the below is for:
    O23 - Service: Abel - oxid.it - C:\WINDOWS\Abel.exe

    It could be this: http://castlecops.com/o23list-409.html

This is the only questionable item in your HJT log.

Thanks a lot chaslang for your reply! The line hasn't disturbed me since; we'll have to look into it again if it reappears. As for Abel, it's a very useful utility and I trust it completely. The author of abel has even got a PGP public key. Probably castlecops listed it as a malware because of its sniffer attitude and remote-installation feature.
    Thanks again for your support!

Well actually it is because PestPatrol lists it as a password cracker. See: http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/pest/search.aspx?mode=scan&allwords=true&pst=CAIN

Yeah, you're right. It is indeed a password cracker and a very good one at that!
I mean, that's why I installed it on first place. By writing of abel's sniffer attitude I meant that actually! What's more interesting is that while I installed it ages ago, just now I tried MajorGeeks' covert ops section. Voila! They have got it listed at:http://http://www.majorgeeks.com/Cain_&_Abel_d5062.html

Yes indeed it is listed there. I did not recognize the able.exe file since I have never used the program. I do wonder why it is install in the Windows root folder though. My attitude is that if the program is not part of the Windows OS and written by Microsoft, it does not belong in the Windows folder.

Either way it is good to know what the program was and that you knowingly installed it.
