Very slow laptop

I recently bought a new laptop, and a couple of months after I bought it, it has drastically slowed. The CPU usage is at 100% for the majority of the time, and I am unable to do pretty much anything with the computer lagging behind me. I am pretty sure there is some sort of malware on the computer, and it is a fairly good laptop, and should not be using 100% processing power trying to watch videos on youtube.

I have attached the logs that it describes in the "Vista Cleaning Procedure" thread. Thanks in advance. :]

    Hello, NickK

The below fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for issue(s) on this machine. Also, please do not install any other software while we are still working with you unless instructed. Once we have given you the all clean and final instructions you will be free to install what you want.

    Step 1:
Please look in Add/Remove Programs for the following and uninstall if found. If you get any errors just make a note and proceed
    Step 2:
Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Step 3:
    Run Ccleaner

    Step 4:
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

Then attach the below logs to your next reply:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

Make sure you tell me if you had any problems running this procedure and give a description of how things are working now!

Thank you very much for your response. I have followed your instructions, apart from removing "Messenger Plus! Live", because I use it so much. And I have also not removed "MSN" from start up programs.

I didn't have any pop-ups or error while following the instructions, but my laptop is still very slow. Here is the log that the post asks for:

Not sure if this is also related, but I can no longer see my volume icon on my task tray, and there is no interface on the screen when i push the volume key. The same goes for the screen brightness.

    Hello, NickK

Please explain what operations are slow! For example answer the below:
    • Is boot up slow?
    • Is shutdown slow?
    • Is browsing/surfing slow?
    • Is downloading slow?
    • Is running any application?
    • Is it also slow in safe boot mode?
    • Also are any process showing in Task Manager to be using a lot of CPU time?
    • Anything else slow?

Step 1: Please remove this startup as I had previously suggested.

    Step 2:
    Run Ccleaner and re-boot

    Step 3:
    Run this: F-Secure Blacklight
    • Save the tool as fsbl.exe to your C: directory
    • Double-click fsbl.exe to run it
    • SelectI agree to the license
    • Choose Next, then Scan
    • After the scan is completed, choose Next
    • A logfile will have been created in the C:\ drive
    • It will be named fsbl-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.log where xxxxxxxxxxxxxxis the date and time of the scan
    • Attach this log in your next reply

    Step 4:
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

Then attach the below logs to your next reply:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    • fsbl-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.log

Make sure you tell me if you had any problems running this procedure and give a description of how things are working now!

Hey there, I ran that rootkit thing. It didn't find anything, and didn't make a log, in answer to your q's:

    Is boot up slow?
    Sometimes
    Is shutdown slow?
    Yes
    Is browsing/surfing slow?
    Yes
    Is downloading slow?
    Not really
    Is running any application?
Yes, it takes for ever to load
Is it also slow in safe boot mode?
I shall try in a moment
Also are any process showing in Task Manager to be using a lot of CPU time?
    SVCHOST.exe

Yes, yes yes. The system runs 10x faster on safe mode. It's how it used to run when I first got it!

Question: Are you having any problems with your network connection? Does your PC actually have a Mervell Yukon device?

    *Did you forget this step?

my internet speed has not changed, it is the actual browser, it remains several keystrokes behind me, and freezes a lot. I am running that MGlogs thing now.

Is the browser lag and freezing happening with all the browsers... IE/Chrome/Thunderbird/Firefox.. which you have installed?

    What about this question:

At the minute, i'm running chrome, purely because firefox kept crashing for ages. I will try running firefox for a little while now though, and tell you if that runs any faster. I think it is all programs that are running slower, not just the browser.

And, i don't know what that is for the second question

    :(

Your logs don't show any other malware problems.

I recommend that you visit our Software Forum and start a thread there.

It is time to do our final steps:
