Very slow...

I have 3 computers on a network. I have ADSL2+ however it is limited to 8Mbps due to the lack of infrastructure in my area.

I have been getting drop-outs and very slow speeds lately. I have tried doing the software tweaking, as well as router tweaking. I have also tried setting everything back to default but it's still very slow.

I'm not sure what information I should give so if you know how this goes please provide me with what details need to be given.

My router: Netcomm NB5Plus4
ISP: Exetel (Australia)

 

You're calling 8Mbps slow? Whoa there!

Have gone to a speed testing website and done and actual speed test? The results?

Have you talked to your ISP about this? Do you know anyone else in your area who uses the same ISP, someone you could compare notes with?

 

It doesn't run at 8Mbps. I wouldn't be complaining if it did. :|

Yes the speeds are slower than usual if it even gets to the speed test website (very rarely can it load a page).

I went on their forums and they have some threads on fixing it there but I've done all the stuff. I know of someone who has Exetel. They get it slow occasionally but not for more than an hour.

 

Have you tried using your ISP"s Helpdesk? You can initiate this at https://helpdesk.exetel.com.au/. And, have you searched their Knowledgebase?

 

Yes I checked all their knowledge bases. I didn't ask them however.

I took off the case of the router for a bit and it cooled down. It's working well now, very stange...
