Very strange issue with external harddrive

Very strange issue



ALL of a sudden everytime i go to my external hard drive then i open the movie folder,i get a pop up saying internet explorer has stopped working even if im not on the web...i can open everyother folder no problem except the movie folder??

It sounds like you have a movie that Windows Explorer (not IE) doesn't like. Which OS are you running?

 

im running 7 but iv had this for a year with no issues,all of a sudden this i right clicked on the folder but all i see is open as notebook in one note.

 

I suspect an .mkv file messing Win7 up when it tries to read the codecs of the file. I was hoping it was XP which would be easier to test by shutting off media preview.

Try opening Computer, in the top left is Organize so click on Folder Options. On the View tab check the first box for 'Always show icons, never thumbnails'. Hit Apply and close the window.

Now, see if the external HD movie folder opens and shows your files as icons without crashing.
