I have a Aspire One netbook with XP.

Want to connect my Westinghouse HD TV (has a VGA input)
    to the netbook.

When I use a short VGA cable everything looks great
but when I connect a 30 foot cable the TV has a red look
    to everything.

    Any ideas here? Workarounds?

    Thanks!

The longer and thinner the cable the more likely degradation will occur. This is more true with video than audio. The longer the cable the further the signal has to travel and could cause the effect you're experiencing. My guess is you're using a rather thin cable between the TV and your machine. As for work arounds, you could try a thicker cable or use a 'signal enhancer' between the TV and computer. The enhancer is placed about mid-way between the 2 objects so that when the signal finally reaches your set the signal would be much like the signal you're getting with the shorter cable. The other kind of 'enhancer' (though I've never used this type) is hooked directly to the source (computer) and strengthens the signal considerably for the long trip to the TV. The latter type is used alot by Direct TV for boosting the signal. I imagine you could find either type at Radio Shack.

Sorry, I didn't mean to write you a book:-D Anyhow, I hope this helps!!
