VGA monitor with Dell Optiplex GX620

I bought a used Dell Optiplex GX620. I want to use my VGA monitor with it. There was a black plastic cap over the VGA port. I removed the cap and plugged in the monitor. When turning on the computer, the computer's power light comes on and I can hear the hard drive presumably booting Windows. But the computer is not sending a signal to the monitor apparently.

I checked the monitor with a Pentium III machine and the monitor works fine.

The Dell has a DVI video card installed. I do not own any DVI monitors or televisions. The VGA monitor is the only monitor I have.

Windows XP. Pentium D.

 

Make sure you have the right output, if your computer has onboard video which most Dells do try that output, if nothing works remove the video card and connect to onboard output and restart the computer. The onboard output is higher up near all the other motherboard outputs, a video card output is lower in the pci card area.

If you wish to use the video card enter bios 'del' and disable onboard video in bios save and exit.

Can you confirm your using a VGA output with your vga monitor and not using a DVI to VGA adapter cable, if you have any HDMI displays or TV's you can test the DVI output using a DVI to HDMI adapter cable. Can you also post the model of the video card.

Hi - having the exact same problems as the original poster on the same machine. I have tried to remove the video card and just use the onboard vga but it is not sending anything to my vga monitor. Any ideas?
