Thanks ASUS, the cnet link though is less pro-DVI than the other link.
My main reason for asking was the price of quality cables, $80 CDN  I guess I'll stick with a VGA cable as DVI is not in my budget ATM. I wonder if the generic cables at %25 of the cost would do as well for my needs. Thanks for the info.

Most monitors that I have bought come with a DVI cable if it has a DVI port. You might not even need to buy a cable.

At the site I quoted, they specifically state that no DVI cable is supplied. Anyways, I was assured of a VGA cable, I'm just wondering now if buying a DVI generic cable will give me any noticable improvement over VGA as I'm basically not a user of high-end apps as stated above. Thanks.

No, you probably wouldn't know the difference.

I'm not sure if a more expensive DVI cable will give you better image than a cheap one. Since a DVI signal is digital, it is much less prone to interference and noise than an analog signal. For analog cables: the more expensive, the better. For digital cables this isn't always true.
I would go for the cheap one (around $20 US is just fine), unless you are using extremely high resolutions or put your monitor miles away from the computer.

    Re:DVI cable...

When I bought my first LCD, it came without a DVI cable so I went ahead and bought one (on a return trip) at the same store for 80 USD.
I would now buy it from an online retailer-- much cheaper.
The second LCD monitor I bought had a DVI cable included-- a much better deal.

The DVI cable cost what I saved by rebate.

If, for some odd reason, your LCD doesnt come with a DVI cable, you can get them very very cheap, and as has been said, with Digital signals, a $10 cable is nearly identical to a $100 cable in performance.

I use this site for any DVI or HDMI needs, as they're remarkably cheaper than retail stores. http://www.svideo.com/dvicable.html

I wouldn't skimp on the length either. Buy a longer rather than a shorter one.

Good point, you can't stretch a cable to go that last 1/2 inch! Been there, done that! Thanks to all who responded, I have a better understanding now.:)

In terms of Picture Quality, HDMI is superior to VGA. VAG is an analog technology so there is D/A and A/D conversion.
Where as HDMI and DVI are all inherently digital and the quality is as good as the original recoded media.
