VIA Chip drivers // Broadband Problems

I signed up for 1MB broadband 3 weeks ago. It is supposed to be easy to install and simple to set up, but the modem will not install!. I have informed by my internet provider that my drivers are out of date ( it is quite an old machine running XP). The modem will not install no matter what I do! I've been told to get a VIA chip set driver. Does any1 know if this will correct the problem?

Wouldn't hurt to try it. http://www.viaarena.com . Download the 4in1 drivers. Also check Windows Update. There should be some VIA networking updates, if u haven't already got them.
