I'll admit he had nothing to do with this. Too busy playing with his toes.

Unfortunately, that's the only way to keep the peace in an occupied country. The Germans found that out and now we are as well.

Are we really that neurotic that we assume that sex is going to completely destroy our way of life? That and the thing in Detroit get far too much publicity. People have sex. It's why we're all here. Deal with it and realize that it's none of your business.

And still the economy is on an unstoppable downward slide. Hmmm....

I do agree, but not for the reasons you're stating.

 

It's not just the US that has problem but the US sneezes and the rest of the world catches a cold.

Here in Europe they are pumping billions of dollars into the economy to try and stop a recession which originated in the states with the collapse of the money market (mortgages and credit loans) most of the world live on credit and now the squeeze is on they are having problems repaying, that means foreclosures and repo but the resale value is normally not enough to repay the collateral so the banks are losing out and the central bank has pushed up the lending rate so it just goes round and round.

the people who are losing the most are the people who can least afford it and it's no wonder they blame the government when they see the politicians living at the top of the tree.

 

Yes but which? American believes that a bunch of crazies with nothing but hate for no reason attacked. How gullible how self involved are we???

Gonna disagree. Being that my family was directly affected by the housing slump (we lost everything)...

Fast forward to today, which is what, roughly two years later? Many realtors here are no longer in real estate. More than one mortgage company went under. Look down any street, and you will see more than one for sale sign.


The few bad eggs?

More than a few, friend. It is a huge problem, and while George and his Bushisms didn't cause it, throwing away enormous amounts money and sending people to die in a war against a country that we have no business being in, certainly didnt/doesn't help.

Good point. Current administration did not cause what's happening now, the bubble was due to burst at some point. However, they have not helped in any way.

Since we're on personal examples, The Guy and I bought a house a few months ago. It was so ridiculously under-priced we're still in awe that no one else was bidding on it. We took a mortgage, that we can afford to pay off very comfortably thanks to my recent promotion and pay-raise, and thanks to having created a solid habit of saving money, we are personally in a comparatively good financial spot right now. We have a rainy-day fund.

However, we're not so gullible as to think that just because we are doing well, the economy is not in the crapper right now.

Mortgage companies are in danger of going out of business. Gas is twice as expensive as it was less than two years ago (if I remember right), our health insurance premiums have spiked, my promotion was the first raise either one of us have received in three years. Our employers are cutting the annual bonuses, to the point of not even giving them out anymore. One of my coworkers had to short-sell her house, or watch her bank foreclose it. Another was allowed to switch shifts so she can work out child-care with her parents, rather than day care center, because she can't afford one anymore.

Yeah, me and my Guy are doing fine right now. But the way the rest of society is going, that is about to become meaningless, if it isn't already. The economy is not in a good spot. A Vice Presidential candidate who believes the reason she was nominated was so she can do god's work in the Middle East, doesn't sound to me like she would be very good at forcing gas prices back down again.

 

The last thing we need is a female version of Bush.

Good for you gal you got in at the right time,just hope the market has bottomed out.

I sold my house 6 months ago and the way it works here is they sign the papers at the time of purchase and pay 10% of the price but we get to live in the house for three months before they have to pay the rest.

I moved into my new apartment 3 months ago and do not have a mortgage so am in a good position financially.

The people who bought my house were a young family and i now realize they went to their maximum ability to pay the mortgage, we passed the old house yesterday in the car and there is a for sale sign outside so they are victims of the credit crunch and no doubt a lot of others are in a similar situation.

 

Maybe he should pass this book on to the incoming president.
