Video blinking after burning

I'm having an issue lately burning dvd's using Freemake. It doesn't happen everytime, only with some of my downloaded videos. During playback the audio plays fine, but the video immediately starts blinking off/on. The audio continues to play while the video is stuck on the constant blinking. I never used to have this problem before. I even tried going back to earlier versions of the software, but no change. It only happens with some videos and I'm not sure if there's something I need to do to change the video settings before burning. I have tried changing the formats, converting mkv or mp4 to avi, but still get the same thing. The videos all play fine on my pc, even after changing formats, but will still have this same playback issue after burning. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!
