I recently transported my cpu. When i hooked it up after transport i got a error that said i had no ati device driver or it was not working. So i reinstall the driver and it still doesn't work. I then tried to use my old video card (i upgraded to ati) but that wasn't working either. My questions are how can i have a software problem from moving my cpu? Are both my memory cards broken? or is it something different like my motherboard?
The problem that i get with the video cards is that my display is automatically set to 4 bit color quality on 800 x 600 screen. I am currently using my motherboard video card instead.

You may have messed up something in windows:eek: you might want to reinstall it and see if that helps.;)

I had something like that happen when I ordered my computer used. Remove all components except for video card and see what happens.

Hi AD:) few terms to get we need to clear up to save confusion and get your comp working:) cpu is the the processor of the computer not the whole computer your vid cards are exactly that not memory cards :)

I'm not sure what could have happened to cause your comp to stop working, best not to dwell on it just treat the symptoms,so was the error you got as soon as your turned on the computer or just after windows had loaded:confused:

Right so you have an ati card one thing that could have happend if you have a newer card is power supply to the card has come loose during transit so check the card to see if it requires a power connector, post the name of your card ATI radeon $$$$ whatever it should be written on it

What you need to do is go into bios 'hit del as soon as the comp turns on' and disable onboard video if theres and option for it if not it it will automatically disabled when a card is installed then insert your card check its inserted correctly connect your monitor to your ati card and turn on your computer describe the sequence of events after pressing the power button, also before touching anything inside the case touch a peice of bare metal with your finger to discharge static

    :)

ok well my card is ati radeon 9600xt (which seems to give people alot of problems) it is an agp bus and i did not hook it up to any power supply when i first installed it. The problem came up when windows started. I will now go through the steps and see exactly what happens

so i put the video card in a re-installed the drivers. Now what happens is that i get the standard microsoft error report asking if i want to send a report or not. "Ati smart has enconterred an error...." It looks like my onboard video processor is still running because all the colors are normal unlike they were when my ati card was running. However, the setting tab in display properties said it is running the ati card, same as ccleaner. The can not be the case because i still cannot run any programs that need alot of video processing, like battlefield2....also i can not make my resolution any bigger than 1024 x760 and the only color quality option i have is 16-bit. Could this problem have something to do with my monitor. I am thinking that since i only took my computer home and not my monitor, that could be what caused the problem. The monitor i am using right now is a gateway ev910 from the year 1995.

So your card works theres just a problem with the driver as you can only run in vga mode download and install this program

    http://majorgeeks.com/Driver_Cleaner_Professional_d3214.html

Follow the instructions in the readme to the letter, this will remove the current driver, when the option to clean in driver clean appears clean both nvidia and ati drivers then download the latest driver from the ATI website and install

If you get stuck dont hesitate to post back ;) :)
