If I upgrade from a nVidia 6800GS to a 7900 GT, do I have to uninstall the video card driver and reinstall after I put in the new card.

Yes you better uninstall your old card's drivers and let windows detect your new video card and then install the latest drivers from nvidia.

    Why?

If you're using nVidia drivers, it's the same driver package, so you don't need to uninstall any software.

Just shut down, change the card, boot, and adjust/check your settings.

Wel. You dont have to no...

But if you want to benfit from the card then installing the latest drivers for that card is definately recommended.

I'ts like me running a 7800GTX on 40.33 nvidia drivers.

It MAY still work but that definately would not be benficial.

Just to be on the safe side i would uninstall current drivers and then upon reboot with new gfx card install updated drivers.

Installing the latest driver is a different issue.

If you have the latest driver, there is no point uninstalling it, just to reinstall the same driver.

If you are installing the latest, nVidia recommend you use Add/Remove to uninstall the existing driver, then installing the latest.
