I wouldn't care what kinda 8x video card it is as long as you could play half life 2. But if your looking to spend some money I would go with the ATI 9800 pro...But if your looking at the cheap side maybe a good 256mb DDR video card would be ok....At least in my opinion....By the way is Half Life 2 as good as people say....I can't wait to get it...

lol ... I just noticed you did put how much you want to spend ... not sure what that symbol is ... but you can get a X800 Pro for 400 american dollars ... though most people like nvidia better ... i don't thinkyou'll be able to get the top of the line card but the second to top(im not sure the nvidia equivelent) ... if ya get what im saying ... but either the x800 or 6800 series will do you just fine

The 6800 GT w/256MB will be great for a few more years but with the way the gaming technology is advancing who could make accurate predictions?

or you could take a Second mortgage on your house (if you got your own house) and get a new mobo that supports PCI Express and get 2 6800Ultras SLI'ed together.... hmm.

Seriously though, the 9800Pro is a danmed good card, I saw it in action the other day, maxed out on UT2004 (holey sh*t! says the announcer), botmatch with 32 bots... 60FPS average. Nice stuff :D

the 9800 Pro is a very nice card. i have a buddy that has one. swears by it. and at least here in the U.S., you can get an all in wonder version of it for $240. But, I saw a review on toms hardware on the nvidia 6600 GT AGP.

too bad the only company i can find that makes it is XFX, which I know nothing about the quality of the cards, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

but if you are going to use it for strictly HL2, you'll probably want to look at an ATI card, since ATI and Valve were apparently in cahoots.
