Video Card For Hp Desktop

Need a recommendation for a video card that works with an
HP E-N-V-Y 700-056
Operating system : windows 8.1
Power supply : 300 watts

Requirements of usage: very basic , need 3 monitor support not for gaming or high end tasks
Would prefer card to have following connections
VGA, DVI-D, HDMI
DVI-D, DVI-D, HDMI
HDMI, HDMI, DVI-D

Cost: 2 digit figures only , this is only to add a 3rd monitor to the picture
I came up with a 750 ti but its over $100 and seems overkill for purpose

 

3 monitor support is not "very basic". Most cards support 2 at most.

If it is only to add a 3rd monitor, why does this card need to support 3 monitors? Computers can support more than one card for multi-monitor support. So what are you using now for graphics? I note according to your specs here, it says integrated is not available if a card is installed. It is common for integrated to be disabled when a card is installed but with most motherboards, you can re-enable it for multi-monitor setups. If true and you cannot do that here, then you do need a card that supports 3 monitors, or two budget cards.

As far as connections, you really need to determine what your monitors support first, then find a card or cards that support those.

I note by the specs too that your motherboard supports just 1 PCIe x 16 slot. But it also has 3 PCIe x 1 slots. These are things to remember when researching cards. You should be able to buy 1 PCIe x 16 and 1 PCIe x 1. PCIe x 16 are more common so as seen here, can be very affordable. Too bad your motherboard will not support two.

Your 300W power supply could be an issue. Sadly, many factory made computers come with supplies that are barely adequate for the component they come with. So adding more hardware without straining capacity can be a challenge. This is especially true with graphics cards which are often the most power hungry devices in our computers - often way more so than CPUs.
